MUSIC FROM THE HEART an evening with Lennie Gallant, Dave Gunning, Thom Swift, and Steven Bowers Friday, February 12, 2010 8pm $25 The Music From The Heart tour is made possible through support from Music Nova Scotia's "Bringin' It Home" Program What better way to celebrate Valentines Day then with four of the most talented singer-songwriters in the Maritimes! Lennie Gallant: Recognized by his peers as one of Canada's best performing songwriters. He has recorded nine albums (seven in English, two in French) which have won him a host of awards and nominations from both the JUNO Awards and East Coast Music Awards. While he says he is much appreciative of the recognition for his work, Gallant feels the best part of being a songwriter is the moment of creation. And other artists obviously believe in Gallant's writing abilities as over 30 artists have recorded his songs internationally, including Jimmy Buffet. Dave Gunning: Since debuting with Lost Tracks in 1997, Dave has proven he can find a song just about anywhere-in childhood memories, local legends, and the everyday lives of those around him - and turn it into something profound, honest and deeply moving. Gunning's musical mind is piled high with song ideas and always able to find the right turn of phrase or melodic-twist that makes a perfect fit. Thom Swift: With his well-travelled guitars, rich and soulful voice, insightful writing and casual wit, Swift warms audiences everywhere he performs. With awards such as New Artist of the Year for the 2008 Canadian Maple Blues Awards, Blues Recording of the Year for the 2008 East Coast Music Awards, Musician of the Year and Blues Artist/Recording of the Year for the 2008 Music Nova Scotia Award plus other awards and nominations, Thom's reputation as a truly talented artist is well known and recognized everywhere. Steven Bowers : Bowers has thrown himself into being a singer-songwriter the way he once thought he'd throw himself into being a pilot. "I always think in terms of how short life is, and music is a way of mirroring that you observe, only you get to soften even the darkest image in some way with a sweet melody or an uplifting lyric," he says. "It's a secret way of speaking for people who can't speak for themselves. It feels like you get the better of the bad things in life. I guess I'm an optimistic writer." view website | buy tickets |
